Fix St James, Sydney

Last minute Friday dinner plan... going through my "to eat list"... Fix St James came across... this place only open Tuesday to Friday for dinner... so it was a bit hard to catch. When I called up for reservation just before 5pm, they told me they cannot do 7pm but can do something later. That's great... I thought I wont be able to make it at all!!!

This place is a small, tiny place where you walked past the bar before going into the restaurant. They also have a few outside seating where you can just go for drinks. I like their simple menu which I don't have a problem choosing what shall I eat! :p One of the wall is a blackboard which shows off what they offer for the day. Although I didn't drink for the night but found that there is something interesting about their red wine... they use a laboratory flask to serve?? This is one thing which I will need to find out next time! :)

 Fennel, Meredith and Grape Salad

We start off with fennel, Meredith and grape salad. It was a plain and simple salad with a strong blue goat cheese to favour.
 Wagyu Flank Steak with Chips

When I saw these thick cut chips... I quickly get one and eat it... may be I haven't had one for awhile. :) I enjoy them more when they are still hot and crispy. May be they thought their wagyu flank is so tender that I don't need a steak knife? I cant even cut it into bite size! :O Once I have got my cutlery sorted out, the steak was juicy and tender. I just cant stop eat...

Trout Cooked in a Bag with Potato Salad

The trout cooked without the fishy taste and it's a good complimentary with the potato salad. While I was thinking whether I will try their desserts. I can feel that I will need my coffee fix... may be it's been a long week for me??

 Chocolate Fondant with Strawberries

How can a meal completed without a dessert... so we share a chocolate pudding with strawberries. It stated on the blackboard which needs to wait for 15 minutes. When it comes, I totally think it is worth the wait!! There is a crispy outer layer with a soft centre and the strawberries is a good complement.

May be this is a small restaurant the noise level can become a issue when others had a bit of a drink... but it wont deter me to come back again for their food!!

The Press Club, Melbourne

When we landed Melbourne, the first thing we did was to find a place to eat!! My friend who did the research for all the good places to dine thought that we should give The Press Club a try. Our hotel is not very far from the restaurant so we decided to take a walk. When we were there, the restaurant is fully booked!! We decided to make a reservation for the following day.

In the morning we went to the Brighton Beach and stopped by Chapel Street to satisfy our shopping crave! By the time we have to leave for our dinner, we were all very tired.

Complimentary Bread & Olives

The interior of the restaurant helps with the sleeping mode!! We decided to share our dishes since we are not very hungry due to a late lunch.

Beef - Rangers Valley scotch, onions kokkinista, Greek mustard, patzari feta dip, patates

The first to arrive is the beef. It also comes with hand cut chips! The chips in Melbourne I ate so far, it's always chunky. The meat is so tender and it's just melted in my mouth! I will leave forget the tenderness of it.

Kakavia - Salmon, Dory, Scallop, Yabby, Calamari, Clams, Celery, Yuzu Latholemono

Then the Kakavia came. This is like a seafood platter. :) The seafood is cooked at it right timing. The calamari is not chewy. The mix with Celery to bring the crunchiness in the dish. It is a surprising dish!!

Horiatiki

We also ordered a side dish Horiatiki which is a village salad. A very freshing taste.

Since we are quite full, we have skipped our dessert. We slowly dragged our tired body back to the hotel!!

Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sydney

My friend and I have been searching for the Best Burger around the city. We have been to a few others, Plan B, Burger Bun and there was one at The Rocks which is now closed. This time we went to Rockpool Bar & Grill Sydney to try their famous full blood wagyu hamburger.

When we were there, we were not sure if the bar entrance is the same as the restaurant? So we walked into the restaurant and ask. The bar entrance is actually inside the restaurant! We settled ourselves in the bar. The setting is different to the bar which I normally go. It provides full table service for your order from drinks to food.

Since it's a work day, we quickly decided and ordered our food and non-alcoholic drink. May be the kitchen is the same as the restaurant, we have been waited a bit of time for our food? I have almost finished my drink, La Palomita, which is quite refreshing but it is not for someone who cant handle sourness.

David Blackmore’s Full Blood Wagyu Hamburger with Bacon, Gruyere Cheese and Zuni Pickle

Our long waited wagyu hamburger finally came! The burger is so thick which I have to cut it in half before I took my bite. The brioche bun has been slightly toasted. The wagyu patty is quite juicy. I first thought that the wagyu patty will be quite oily due to the high level of fat. The pickle has balanced off the oiliness. The chutney added the sweetness to the burger overall. I had a very satisfying lunch and thank you my dear friend. No wonder this burger is the best burger as voted by Time Out Magazine.
